Garden Gnome Carnage

Toadsanime 4 Garden Gnome Carnage
This game is, without a doubt, incredibly unique. There isn’t many games where the character you play as is a building with a garden gnome attatched to it. The controls become very easy to use after several minutes of play, and the amount of destruction in the game is, oddly, beautiful. Being able to smash Santa in the face by tossing exploding bricks at him has never been so fun! Trying to beat your high-score makes this game become very addictive, so I suggest everyone that reads this review gives this excellent game a try.

Mr. Blocko: Super Tournament Edition

Toadsanime 4 Mr. Blocko: STE
I was very nearly going to rate this a five-star game, but settled for a four. To fully explain this phonemonal game would be very difficult. This game litterally changes the whole concept of Tetris and turns the already-addictive game into something else. Not only is the gameplay concept superb, but with the addition of multiplayer and to be able to make your own ‘costumes’, it’s a mighty surprise to me that this game hasn’t gained as much popularity as it deserves. An outstanding achievement of a game that should be played by everyone.

Hard Time

Tigdb-av 4 "It won't be a long time, but it will be a HARD time!"
In terms of sheer entertainment, I’d probably give Hard Time a “5!” This free-roaming prison sim is about the perfect mix of inadvertent laughs and genuinely interesting gameplay. Well, okay, so it’s mostly inadvertent laughs…

But I really do enjoy the non-linear nature of the game, which lets you roam around the prison freely, meeting with guards and other inmates, and picking up things like beachballs, katanas, and hypodermic needles. Granted, there isn’t too much to do in the game other than get into fights and otherwise cause trouble… but the sheer silliness of it all never seems to get old for me. Seeing a dismembered cellmate goofily hop toward you on one leg, threatening to kick your ass, is hilarious enough – but when your character then gets on his knees and inexplicably breaks into tears it’s a down-and-out riot.

There’s so much wrong with this game, from the character customization, to the goofy dialogue, to the courtroom scenes (where your character can stand trial without a shirt on and get only 6 days for aggravated assault), to the rather shifty 3d engine… but it’s still incredibly playable. I’d venture to say that Hard Time would be worse off if these things were polished up – the hallmark of a great B-game. Grab some friends and some beers and this is a perfect game to waste a few hours with.

Too Many Ninjas

Tigdb-av 4 Crack!
Man, this game is addicting as hell… it feels GREAT to swing your sword around and the pacing is perfect. I love how the music speeds up with each successive level. The ability to deflect ninja stars into people is a nice touch, too.

So yeah, I honestly can’t think of anything that would improve this simple game without breaking it it in some way.

Dino Run

Jeffsquare 4 A cute yet tense little gem with lots of detail
I had never played a Pixeljam game before, but I’m a big fan of low-res retro-style games. These guys do such an awesome job at what they do and this game is a great example.

It’s a very simple game: you’re running from a black cloud of doom that represents the end of dinosaurs. As you run, you pick up eggs for points you can spend to increase your stats while dodging meteorites, avoiding tar pits, and climbing over other scared dinosaurs.

The experience is only mildly challenging, but it’s really quite enjoyabe. As the game progresses, it turns up the feeling of tension and you start to wonder how the game ends… I mean, the dinosaurs died right? Well I thought they handled the ending well.

So check it out, you can play it in your browser AND there’s a multiplayer mode where you can race with others. It was a very well executed game!
