Penumbra Overture feels more like a wonderful display of a physics engine rather than a fully fleshed out puzzle FPS. I say this because this game really didn’t manage to grab my attention.
The level design is very bland and repetitive. And the puzzles get rather old after a while and feel a little too much like those ‘get out of this room’ flash games. Too often what you’ll need to do next is not obvious enough.
Instead of this game I’d suggest the two Mondo games by Cactus or Half Life 2 if you have the money to spare.
This game just isn’t interesting or innovative enough while the physics engine is still very impressive, but that’s all it’s got going for it.
Try the demo if you’re curious.
