Game Description

Q-Lat2 is an arcade type game mixing features from pentaque, billiards, and flippers. Theobjective is to turn all the balls to the same color. This is achieved by collisions between different colored balls, where the slower ball takes the color of the faster ball. You control one of the balls (and your friend controls another when 2 players play). Collect special bonuses to increase your score or to gain more time. Not all bonuses are useful though.

Photofunia_beszosze 4 16 bits should be enough for everyone?
Q-Lat2 is such a nice little game. It oozes its creator’s love for it and, hence, quality. It’s crisp looking (the graphics were created in Deluxe Paint through DOSBox, for god’s sake — you gotta love it!), simple, fresh and fun, easy to pick up and sufficiently arcadey and addictive. Hell, it’s even multiplayable on split keyboard.

You’ll find an array of power-ups in the game – just bump into the balls with the letters on them to pick one up. You’ll be particularly interested in the ones with T (10 seconds time bonus), B (5 bonus points) and H (all balls except the ones controlled by players will stop dead on).

The downside – for me – was that there is no real progression throughout the levels: the generation of the balls (their quantity, sizes and positions) appear to be completely random.

Q-Lat2 plays almost perfectly in CrossOver on a Mac (which probably means that it also works on Linux under WINe). However, expect some flickering with the fullscreen framebuffer effects (of which there are none during gameplay). You may also want to turn off the music (which is very cool, but not fantastic) to increase stability.
