Game Description

Retrobattle is made to look and feel like the classic arcade-style NES games, such as Ice Climber and Clu Clu Land. The main goal of this arcade-like game is to collect all 8 coins in each stage to progress to the next, while collecting treasures and getting a high score.

Tyranid 3 Is it 1982 again?
Retrobattle succeeds in its one visible goal; to make a game that looks and feels like it belongs on the NES (or Sega Master System, I suppose). Everything about this title screams retro, right down to the blatantly obvious title. Because they’ve hit the mark so well, I bumped up the rating for this title half a star.

So what’s the downside? Well, if you shovel aside all the nostalgia, there were a lot of games for the NES that weren’t exactly good. If Retrobattle had been released back then, it wouldn’t have been an A-list title – certainly high on the B-list, but it’s no Metroid. Not even quite a Bubble Bobble. It’s fun, sure, but it doesn’t have the lasting appeal that most of these titles managed to create. It’s still a good game, don’t get me wrong, and it can fit neatly on a 3×5 floppy. Ha. More retro computing references. Yes… well, now I find I’ve lost my point, but the crux of this review is: GOOD AESTHETIC AND GAMEPLAY, BUT GAME HAS SHORT LEGS, 3/5.
